  • Camp Lackawanna's Summer Plans

    May 21, 2020

    Dear Friends,

Greetings to you! I hope this letter finds you and your family smiling and feeling well. In reviewing the guidelines that have been put out by the CDC, the American Camp Association (ACA), and the Pennsylvania Governor’s office, it was decided that it would be nearly impossible to follow the recommended practices for a safe camp experience at the quality level we want to provide to our campers. After months of sifting through information, thought, discussion, and prayer, the Camp Lackawanna team has decided that we are not going to be able to proceed with the previously scheduled overnight summer camp this year at Camp Lackawanna. It was a difficult decision to have to make, but a necessary one for the safety and health of all our potential campers, staff members, and families. Camp is all about creating relationships and connections with one another, and under the current guidelines, the team does not see a way to continue to follow the restrictions while providing a quality program that strengthens these connections.

Even though the typical overnight summer camp will not be occurring, our team is extremely excited about the things that are being put in place to allow camp to be a fresh and new experience when we are able to hold typical family and youth summer camp again. Our new, full-time camp director, Mykela Bricka, is onsite and already bringing fresh ideas to the table. We have several projects to be completed in the near future that will bring more adventurous opportunities to our camp experience.

Camp Lackawanna is located in Wyoming County, which enters the yellow phase this Friday, May 22, meaning that 25 people are allowed to be gathered. As the county progresses to green at some point in the future and restrictions are lifted, we have plans already in the making to open the camp and create camp memories for families and teens. An informational video is located at www.camplackawannafirst.com and updates will be posted on the website and Facebook as they become available.

If you have already registered for Camp Lackawanna 2020, paid a deposit or any other amount, you will receive a separate email to your registered account with further information regarding that registration and options available.

Our team is so blessed by all of you who are praying for the camp and its future. Please continue to keep the camp, its staff, and those working to share the glory of camp in your prayers. We are looking forward with a consistently positive attitude that God will be able to use these crazy times to make great things happen through Camp Lackawanna. What a wonderful opportunity for the camp to be starting with its re-energizing process!

Although there continue to be restrictions, Camp Lackawanna is available for family and small group rentals. If your group is interested in getting the incomparable Camp Lackawanna experience this summer, please contact the office at 570-348-0643 to make a reservation. We appreciate your continued support of camp, and will be in prayer for you as you share this news with your children.

We’re heartbroken that we won’t be able to create the magic of camp this year. We know how important the camp experience is for our campers; please know this decision was not made lightly. Given this unprecedented situation, the canceling of summer camp is the most responsible choice to protect the health and safety of our communities. We leave you with these words from James, chapter one, verses 2 and 3, “Consider it pure joy, my brothers and sisters, whenever you face trials of many kinds, because you know that the testing of your faith produces perseverance.” Camp Lackawanna will persevere and come out on the other side better than ever!

    in Christ,

    The Camp Lackawanna Team
